Mary Emma Miles

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 19, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to The Kahl Home.

Mary was born on July 31, 1910 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of John and Louise (Vodopich) Spolar. She married Leonard Miles on December 24, 1926 in Boone, IA. He preceded her in death in 1979.

Mary was a homemaker for much of her life, but also worked as a cook at Bethany Home in Moline, and the former Americana Nursing Home in Davenport, retiring in 1972. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, dancing, singing, camping and the outdoors. She loved her family very much.

Survivors (and spouses) include her daughters, JoAnn Maddox, East Moline, Mary Ann Cook, Davenport; son, Leonard (Dorothy) Miles, Lighthouse Point, FL; grandchildren, Richard (Judy) Smith, Sharon (Jerry) Carter, both of Houston, TX, James (Amy) Cook, Davenport, Connie (Doug) Forbes, East Moline, Leonard J. (Bernie) Miles, Jr., and Jennifer (Frank) Moschetti, both of Florida; 14 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, her parents, a daughter, Louise Darline Smith, sons-in-law, James Maddox, James Cook, and Dennis Smith, and a grandson Dennis L. Smith and his wife, Dale Smith, preceded Mrs. Miles in death.
