

Norman Riffel, 89, of Rock Island passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Trinity Medical center-Rock Island. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Sunday (1/22) at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. Private entombment will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Norman was born October 20, 1922 in Lost Springs, Kansas, the son of Herman J. and Clara (Kuhl) Riffel. He was united in marriage to Frances Marilyn Reschke June 26, 1949 in Rock Island. During World War II he served as a Troop Carrier Pilot with the 9th Air Force.
Norman had been employed for 44 years with Deere & Co. retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, where he served on the Property Committee and also the Evangelism Committee. Norman was a panelist on bible class of the Air since 1975. Prior to coming to Holy Cross he had served as a youth bible class teacher for many years. Norman was a member of the Do Si Do Square Dance Club, Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife Frances, Rock Island, daughters Marlise Riffel, Virginia, MN, Melinda (Phil) Wildermuth, Geneseo; son Mark (Candace) Riffel, Buncombe, IL; grandchildren Lucia Riffel, Abbey (Mike) Fuelling, Jordan (Alisha) Wildermuth, Taylor Wildermuth, Ryan and Rachel Riffel; great grandchild Kane Fuelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, & a brother.
