Raymond C. Whitney

His body will be cremated. A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

Raymond was born on December 25, 1947 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Ralph Lyle and Betty Louise (Carlson) Whitney. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. He later went on to work for Case IH in East Moline as a machinist-repairman, retiring in 1999 following 30 years of service. For several years he took care of mowing lawns for many people who became friends, and also stayed busy with other odd jobs to pass the time.

Ray loved the outdoors and nature, in his free time he could be found boating, camping, or bird watching. He loved cars, was a Ford guy, and greatly enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was also a member of the Rock Island Boat Club.

Those left to honor his memory include his brother, Lyle Whitney, Marshall, NC; a niece, Sharon Whitney, Rock Island; and many friends.

His parents preceded Mr. Whitney in death.
