Robert J. “Wolfcloud” Beach, 67, passed away at his home in Coal Valley, Illinois, on Sunday April 13, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Hodgson Funeral Home Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the family and on line condolences can be shared at www.hodgsonfuneralhome.com. He was the son of Robert and Dorothy Mary (DeFrietas) Beach. Born in the Bronx, New York, the family moved to Los Angeles, California where he attended and graduated from Page Military Academy. He later attended University of Oklahoma. Mr. Beach, a Green Beret, served with the 5th Special Forces under Captain Vernon Gillespie during the Vietnam War. His assignments took him to various countries during his military career.
He also served as a “Hot Shot” Federal Firefighter, assigned to the Andreas National Forest, in California, a currier for Lloyd’s Bank of London, and Security for A&M Records of Los Angeles. Wolfcloud as his friends knew him by was very involved in the Native American community. He was a member of the Navajo Nation. He participated in the Sacred Run of 1996, led by Dennis Banks. Also, he was a member of the American Indian Movement, serving as an advisor to High Desert Aim of California, with Fern Mathias. Surviving Mr. Beach are his significant other Jessica Wentzloff of Coal Valley, Illinois; Rachel, Andrew Wentzloff and Dr. Susan Ewen. He was preceded in death by his father Robert and brother Nicholas.
