Robert was born on February 7, 1921 in Rock Island, the son of William L. and Lulu (Carroll) Bowman. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the Army in the Pacific Theatre. He married Glenna Eilleen Morris on September 14, 1946 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Robert was a truck driver with Consolidated Freightways, retiring in 1981. In earlier years he worked at Chippiannock Cemetery. He was a member of the VFW, Teamsters, and along with his wife, Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
Robert loved working in his garage, repairing all sorts of things – his family used to say, “Bob can fix it.” He also built go-carts for his daughter and other neighborhood kids. He enjoyed canoeing and sailing, and had a special affection for cars, especially his Mazda Miata, which was a personal delight later in life. Roller skating held an important place in his heart, having met his future wife, Glenna, while skating at the various roller skating rinks of the area in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
Those left to honor his memory include daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Kent Ferris, Moline; a granddaughter and her husband, Megan and Austin Reynolds, Moline, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, his parents, an infant brother, James, and a sister, Doris Moran, preceded Mr. Bowman in death.
The family would like to extend grateful thanks and appreciation to the Silver Cross staff, as well as those with Hospice Compassus, who aided Mr. Bowman during his journey home.
