(23Sep1923-23Dec2022)
passed away peacefully at the age of 99.
Born and raised in Chicago, Anne had two loving parents, Antonia and Louis Yake, who came from Slovenia in 1921 to raise their family. Anne had 3 brothers (Anton, John & William) and 3 sisters (Louise, Mary & Olga); she outlived them all.
Anne was a hard-working young lady who started working at the age of 16 at the American Can Company when World War II broke out to provide for her family and retired there after 26 years as a Time Study Engineer.
Anne met Edmund, also from Chicago, where they enjoyed dates at the Gayety’s Ice cream Parlor in downtown Chicago. They married in 1949 and had 3 daughters in the Chicago area. In 1973, Edmund’s work transferred them to the Washington DC area where they lived for 20 years until retiring to Florida.
Anne was known for being an extremely stylish dresser and made most of her clothes growing up since her family couldn’t afford fancy outfits. Her talent of making beautiful clothes morphed into making comforters, doing any and all craft projects, and crocheting all sorts of accessories but mostly afghans in the most beautiful colors. She could whip up an afghan in a day. Her biggest joy in life was gifting items she made to anyone who crossed her path.
In her most recent years, she lived at Brookdale West Melbourne Assisted Living where she was well cared for and loved by the whole staff. Anyone that works there will tell you Anne was a treat to care for since she was always smiling, grateful, and appreciative.
This past September, Anne had hip surgery and has been recovering at Viera Del Mar Rehab Center. Even the afternoon of her surgery she told her family she was fine and not to worry. But the 3 months in rehab took their toll. She fought hard to learn to walk again but just couldn’t do it. She hung onto life until her eldest daughter, Sharon, recently visited from California. They had a wonderful few days celebrating the Christmas holidays until Anne passed peacefully in her sleep on the 23rd of December.
Anne is survived by her 3 daughters (Sharon, Denise and Charlene) and 6 grandchildren (Christina, Laurel, Austin, Stephan, Chase and Candace) who all made her proud.
She is now our angel in heaven watching over us all.
