It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Basil G. Hodge, a cherished father, devoted mentor, and a proud veteran, who departed this life on February 18, 2026, at the age of 78.
Basil was born on June 14, 1947, in the scenic Port of Victoria Mahe, Seychelles, to the late Ottilie and Byron Hodge, who instilled in him the values of courage, resilience, and kindness that he carried throughout his life.
Basil's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to service and his ability to rise above challenges. He proudly served his country as Cpl Basil (Tony) Hodge in the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. His valor on the battlefield was recognized with three Purple Hearts, reflecting the depth of his courage and the sacrifices he made for his nation. Despite being honorably discharged due to medical reasons, Basil's spirit remained unbroken, and he continued to serve as a retired veteran, dedicating his time and energy to causes close to his heart.
An advocate for people with disabilities, Basil lived life to the fullest, never allowing his own disabilities to hinder his zest for life or his commitment to helping others. He was actively involved in numerous organizations, including the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he worked tirelessly to support his fellow veterans.
Basil was also a beloved figure in his community, volunteering at local schools and serving as a mentor to many. His love for dog racing and WWE provided him with joy and entertainment, while his role as a father and best friend to his children, Anthony and Jennifer Hodge, was his greatest pride.
Basil's marriage to Julia Hodge, though they eventually parted ways, was a meaningful chapter in his life that brought him the family he cherished. He was predeceased by his parents and his dear sister, Muriel Uhl, whose memories he held close. His legacy lives on through his surviving children, Anthony and Jennifer, who will forever treasure the lessons and love he imparted.
A celebration of Basil's life will take place on March 14, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Florida Memorial Gardens, located at 5950 US-1, Rockledge, FL 32955.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1096, or your local chapter, in Basil's honor.
In the words of his family, "He was a veteran, a father, and a mentor to a lot of us growing up, and his memory along with his legacy will continue on with us forever. GOD BLESS YOU POPS. WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU."
Basil G. Hodge's life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and the impact one individual can have on the world. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, knowing he has left a legacy of love, bravery, and compassion.
