Betty Hudgens Annis passed away Saturday, September 14th at the age of 89.
Betty and her husband, Arthur moved to the Rockledge-Cocoa area in 1953 to build houses, shopping centers and apartment complexes. They built over 100 houses in Broadmore Acres and Cocoa Hills. They also built the Cocoa Hills Shopping Center (now Celebration Shopping Center) on Dixon Blvd., and the AAA Apartments on Fiske Blvd., as well as several other apartment and retail buildings in the area.
In the 50's and 60's, many workers at The Cape stayed at Betty's rooming house on Riverside Drive in Rockledge until they could bring their families to join them in Brevard County.
She is survived by her son, Arthur A. Annis, Jr. of Rockledge; daughter, Donna Morris of Rockledge and Commerce Township, Michigan; granddaughter, Brenda Brown and great grandson, Dylan Henderson of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and grandson, Arthur A. Annis, III, great granddaughter, Ayano Annis; and great grandson, Arthur A. Annis, IV, of Marshall, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her memory to the National Rifle Association or the Parkinson's Support Group of Brevard at 45 Marina Isles Blvd, Indian Harbour Beach, FL 32937.
