Betty Jean (McCullough) Mercer, 92, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Despite her illness, she never lost her infectious spirit or determination and was an inspiration to those who knew her to the end.
Betty was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 11, 1933 to the late Elmer and Flossie (Allison) McCullough. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was married to the late Donald Lee Mercer Sr., on July 22, 1951. Betty was preceded in death by her oldest son Donald Lee Mercer Jr. Surviving children are Robert Kenneth Mercer (Wendy), Richard William Mercer (Cindy), and Judith Kathleen (Mercer) Boshell (Alan).
She was an active member of organizations and communities where she has lived over the years... Chicago and Chicago suburbs, Taylorville, Illinois, Oswego, Illinois, and Melbourne, Florida. She especially enjoyed dressing up and playing Betsy Ross on special occasions for the Indian River Colony Club in Melbourne, Florida. That was a special treat for her.
A Celebration of Life will be held in our mom's honor this Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, 32955. A visitation will begin at 1:30 PM with a funeral service beginning at 2:30 PM.
