"Kay" was born on December 30, 1954, to Aubra and Mildred Whitaker in Ludowici, Georgia. Her family moved to the town of Wabasso, Florida, where Kay spent a happy childhood. She graduated from Vero Beach High School and later obtained an Associate's degree in Business from Brevard Community College.
Kay married Eric Charles Wilden on October 25, 1975. The couple raised three children during their 47-year marriage, Erica (John) Moody, Aaron Wilden and Jessica Wilden.
A 35-year employee of L3 Harris in Palm Bay, Kay delighted in her career as an Engineer Specialist. She loved her "lab" and team of co-workers and took great pride in her work, retiring in 2021.
Kay had a larger-than-life personality and was an energetic "doer." She enjoyed several friendships that spanned a lifetime and looked forward happily to cruises with friends and excursions to Las Vegas. Creative and artistic, Kay took great pleasure in jewelry-making, painting, ceramics and crafts of all kinds. She was a gifted cook ("If you're not cooking, get out of the kitchen!") and especially enjoyed preparing large Sunday dinners for her family.
A member of Eau Gallie First Baptist Church, Kay supported Candlelighters of Brevard and volunteered in Brevard Public Schools. She loved her grandchildren "to the moon and back" and was always the first to support their various endeavors. Over the years, she took them camping, to the zoo, theme parks and on several trips, once traveling to the mountains so they could see snow.
Kay was predeceased by her parents, as well as by her brothers, Dennis, Larry and Joey Whitaker. She is survived by her husband and children, and sisters, Fay Nettles, Sue Thompson and Ruby Piatt. She also leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, Nicholas, Colby and Liam Moody, and Lucas and Lillian Wilden, along with many in-laws, extended family members and grieving friends.
A memorial service for Kay will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida.
