Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2022 at Eau Gallie First Baptist Church at 1501 W Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32935.
A native of Battle Creek, MI he was born June 26, 1938 the son of the late Charles M and Norma May Niswander. On March 19, 1960 Carl married the love of his life, Mrs. Bernice Ann Niswander (D 7/25/2012), they were married for 62 years and had 2 children together. After 30 years of service he retired from the United States Air Force as Senior Chief Master Sergeant in April 1982. Carl loved being in the Air Force as his blood was most likely blue. He took great pride in serving his country. He was very humble. His family would brag about his achievements and medals and his reply “I am just doing my job the best I can.” He was also a Service Manager for a BMW & Mercedes dealership for 15 years. Carl received a BS in Finance from Memphis University.
Being a member of Eau Gallie Baptist Church Carl enjoyed every area of ministry throughout his life. He wanted to serve God’s people. He loved teaching, it enabled him to share his heart for God’s Word. For many years he taught Sunday School. Carl was a strong man in his beliefs, had a loving heart, a gentle soul, and the ability to see good in everyone in any circumstance. His hobbies included spending time with his family and learning more from God’s Word. He loved talking about his wife and all the funny little things she would do. His family would laugh so hard. What was even funnier was Bernice did not know she was funny which made them laugh even more! He also loved talking about traveling with his family. Being a military family they were able to go to many places and explore. He loved to know the history of wherever they were going and teach them about it as they explored. Carl had the ability to make someone he just met feel as though they belonged and welcomed.
A lesson from Carl to the youth would be: work hard and reach for your dreams – you are the only one that decides your future. And along your way help someone else in their journey. One of his favorite phrases include: Your time is the most precious gift you can give someone; Trust your gut and intuition – 9 ½ times out of 10 it’s right.
His children decided to share a memory of their father: "Watching Dad live his life. His life is one of my fondest memories. All the roles he played – Husband, Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Son-in-law, friend, Chief Master Sergeant, employee. He did all of these with honor, grace, pride and love. He made an impact wherever he was and whatever he was doing. Whether he was chasing the grandkids around the pool, building another project Mom created in her head, helping you with your homework or instructing an employee – he made you feel as though YOU were loved and important to him."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife: Bernice Ann Niswander; and his siblings.
Survivors include his children: Sherill Spaccio and Carl (Britney) Niswander; his grandchildren: Celeste Spaccio, Ivan Niswander, and Bryanna Niswander; and his four great grandchildren.
Carl supported St Jude Children’s Hospital for over 30 years. His monthly donations brought him joy knowing he was helping to make a difference in a child’s life. The St. Jude TV commercials would bring a tear to his eyes. Which is why memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Moffitt Cancer Center.
