He was born July 8, 1936 in Robeson County, North Carolina. He was the only son of Margaret Leigh Riddle and C. Lacy Council. He grew up in Fayetteville, NC and traveled throughout his military career, finally settling in Melbourne.
He served 30 years in the US Air Force and retired in 1984 as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt). He served in Vietnam and spent 15 years of his career with the 33rd Air Force Recruiting Squadron at Patrick AFB. Upon retiring, he taught ROTC at Melbourne High School and then went on to work for the US Postal Service.
He loved cars and NASCAR racing. He was passionate about life, had a positive outlook, and after receiving a heart transplant in 2003 was known to end each conversation with “Life is Good!”
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Joyce Bingham Council, his six daughters: Anita Wuest (Bob), Julie Green (Danny), Barbara Larkin (Gus), Stacey Gillman (Jerry), Robin Zabitosky (Mike), and Pamela Forshee (David), his eight grandchildren: Greg, Ryan, Carl, Lauren, Grayson, Liam, Barrett and Tate.
A special “Thank You” to Dr. Gregory B. Hoang, “Charlie’s Angels”, the Palm Bay Infusion Center, and VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, especially to Richard Gardenhire.
A memorial services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US 1, Rockledge, FL . The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m., with services beginning at 1:00.
