He was born in Sumter County, SC, and came to Brevard County in 2012 from Akron, OH, after spending most of his life in Raleigh, NC.
Charles was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Florida. He retired as a News Editor from the Raleigh (NC) News & Observer, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by his two sons, Charles W. (Kris) McGrew IV and David McGrew; three brothers, Terrence (Virginia) McGrew, James (Mary Alyce) McGrew, and Stephen (Nada) McGrew; one sister, Willie Jean Freeman; and two grandchildren, Alex and Shannon. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. McGrew, Jr. and Anita Mertis DeBerry; and his wife, Ellen Zukunft McGrew in 2008.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL. from 11:00am-12:00pm, with a funeral service following at noon.
The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial is entrusted with arrangements.
