Dale Augustus Zeigler, age 85, of Viera, Florida, went home to Jesus peacefully in his sleep on September 20, 2025.
He was born on November 4, 1939, in East Liverpool, Ohio and was the son of Dale and Beatrice “Bette” Zeigler. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Powers.
In 1957, Dale met the love of his life, Margaret, at a hot dog stand. It was a chance meeting that became a lifetime partnership. They married in 1963 and spent 62 wonderful years together, raising three children and later celebrating the blessings of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1979, Dale moved his family to Florida where all 3 of his children eventually attended high school and college. Being a Grandfather to his 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren was his greatest joy, and he remained deeply connected with his entire family. He was affectionately known as “Beard,”“Grandpa” And “Grandpa Z.”
Dale was active his entire life and embraced a love of sports, which he shared with his family. Dale never stopped moving, and he spent countless hours teaching his children every activity that he could.
His grandchildren loved sharing news of their athletic endeavors with him. A loyal Chicago Bears and Florida Gators fan, he never wavered in his team spirit.
Dale was also a part of the national handball community for his entire life, and he won numerous titles. He always remained a fierce competitor, most recently winning the National Doubles Championship in 2025. He loved golf and was always eager to play, so that he could spend time with family and friends.
Everyone will remember Dale mostly for his fun-loving spirit and his infectious sense of humor. He was always ready to greet everyone with a smile, a joke, or a playful shenanigan. Dale had a special place in his heart for animals and he spent years volunteering at the Brevard Zoo.
Professionally, Dale worked as a Contract Specialist for NASA, where he was honored with awards recognizing his commitment to America’s space program. He later worked in Real Estate Sales. He was also proud to have served his country in the United States Marine Corps from which he received an honorable discharge.
Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; his brother, Timothy (Donna) Zeigler; his children, Todd (Alice) Zeigler [grandchildren Joseph & Peter], Marla (Robert) Ledford [granddaughter Alyssa & Tyler Sullivan, great-grandchildren Maddux & Zoey], and Beth (Ben) Estes [grandchildren Ansley & Kelly]; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored him as their “Favorite Uncle Dale.”
Above all, Dale leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, fun and faith that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Please join in celebrating his life at 10 am on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church at 5655 Stadium Parkway in Viera, Florida.
