He attended the University of South Florida. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and Marine Corp Reserves from 1967 to 1973. After completing active duty service, Darby moved to Cocoa Beach to enjoy the fishing and job opportunities connected with the space program. In 1972, he joined the city of Cocoa Beach as a lift station mechanic and retired from the city 46 years later as the Director of Wastewater Department.
Darby was a lifelong fan of the Florida Gators and Tampa Bay Bucs and he was a gourmet cook. He and his wife, Lynn, enjoyed culinary trips that included meals at unique restaurants and meeting notable chefs.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kim. Darby is survived by his wife Lynn, brother Warren Jr. (Anne), his nephews and many special cousins.
A visitation for Darby will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida 32955. The funeral service will occur at 11:00 AM with a catered reception to follow. The graveside service will be held at Florida Memorial Gardens at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
