March 28, 1939 – August 25, 2026
Rev. David George Mennicke went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and love.
Born in Britton, South Dakota, to Carl Jr. and Hilda Mennicke, David moved with his family to Varna, Illinois, at the age of four. Called to a life of Christian ministry, he attended Concordia High School and Junior College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.
Throughout his dedicated ministry, Pastor Mennicke faithfully served congregations in Hampton, Virginia; St. Louis, Missouri; Living Christ Lutheran Church in Buffalo Grove, Illinois; and Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he retired from active ministry in 2005. He spent his entire life in devotion to God, joyfully bringing people to Jesus through his preaching, pastoral care, and community leadership.
Outside of his ministry, David was a gifted musician who shared his love of music through the flute, playing for many years with the Brevard Flute Choir. He was also a passionate, die-hard Chicago Cubs fan who cheered them on through every season.
David was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amber. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his sister, Harriet; his daughter, Miriam Moore (Kevin Fain); his son, Mark Mennicke (Shannon); his grandchildren, Alicia Smith (William), Kathryn Schlip (Chad), Jayson Kelso (Katherine), Brandon Fouche, and Justice Mennicke, as well as many cherished great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A life dedicated to faith, family, and fellowship, his influence and memory will remain forever in the hearts of those he served and loved.
