On June 10, 2026, the world lost an amazing man and beloved spouse, father and grandpa. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Lohaus. His final moments were surrounded by the love of his family, whose hearts remained with him until the very end. His passing leaves an eternal void in the lives of those who loved him.
He was a quiet and humble man, with a compassionate heart, an attentive ear, and an honest soul. He was intelligent, patient, driven, and resourceful. He possessed the ability to fix (or almost fix) just about anything. Despite a lifetime of hard work, Dennis was never in a hurry nor too busy for family.
Dennis was born in 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri as the youngest of two boys. He attended Murray State University where he received a degree in Applied Science and Technology. During college, he played offensive guard and was captain of the football team. He received multiple recognitions including: All state honorable mention, Outstanding teenager of America, Outstanding industrial arts award, voted best personality, and the Citizenship award.
After college, Dennis taught HVAC locally at Brevard Community College (Eastern Florida State) until landing a career position at Kennedy Space Center. Soon after, he built his own HVAC business: "Lohaus Air Conditioning". Over the next 30+ years, he worked both jobs, sleeping only when he could, as it was a passion for him to ensure success for himself and his family. His relentless work ethic and determination earned multiple recognitions, including the Silver Snoopy Award (the highest level of recognition at KSC). At the end of NASA’s space shuttle program, Dennis wrote and performed a song dedicated to the innovative and devoted workers and crew members of the legendary shuttle program.
Dennis had a talent for singing and playing his guitars. He also had a passion for plants and wild animals; spending countless hours making his rounds through the yard tending to his plants and animals while savoring a fine cigar. Family members will laugh as they recall the joy he had after spending several weeks training a squirrel to eat out of his hand. Dennis had multiple passions in his life, but above all was the love for his family.
Dennis met and fell in love with Susan Cart. They were blessed to spend their lives together, raising four loving children (3 boys & 1 girl). Dennis and Susan enjoyed camping, cruises, and riding motorcycles with the U.S. Spyder Ryders group. He would often write songs and sing to her during peaceful evenings together at home.
He cherished his relationships with his children. He always made them feel loved, valued, and encouraged; whether it was going out for breakfast on Sunday mornings, watching movies together, attending hockey games, the forced ballet recitals, or nonstop strategizing over stocks. Though memories of his love, wisdom, and unconditional support will endure forever, his children will also never forget the aroma of his cigars and the wink he would give just before telling one of his famously not-so-funny dad jokes.
Perhaps his greatest legacy was being an amazing Grandpa to two adorable grandkids. He taught them that love is not given in objects but in time spent together. He enjoyed taking his grandkids to parks, walking with them around the yard while eating fruit off his trees, playing guitar as they danced around the living room, and of course spoiling them with root beer floats and other sweets (Dennis was always ready to eat ice cream).
Dennis left this world a truly loved man who accomplished every one of his goals. He sacrificed a lot and had an unwavering devotion to his family; often choosing to settle for a tiny phone screen to watch football games and track stocks if it meant being present at a family gathering.
He cherished his roles as a loving father, spouse and grandparent, creating a warm and nurturing environment filled with love, inspiration, and countless core memories. His love and memory are survived by: his beautiful spouse Susan Cart; sons Brent Lohaus, Brandon Lohaus, and Michael Hogan (Tara); daughter Amanda Turner (Dustin); grandkids Allie Turner and Noah Turner; brother Wayne Lohaus (Peggy); and niece Alecia Lax (David). He is preceded in death by his parents Elenore & Earl Lohaus and niece Rachel Lohaus.
