

Don was born in Mebane, NC on October 20, 1944. He came with his parents to Florida to attend Eau Gallie Junior High and graduated from Melbourne High School in 1963. Don was president of his sophomore and senior classes, co-captain of his basketball team, played baseball, and was the 1st President of Wheel Club International, sponsored by Melbourne Rotary. Don received a scholarship for basketball, was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated from the University of Florida in 1971. He was a disabled veteran who proudly served his country in Vietnam from 11/68 until 8/73, and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in active combat.
Don was a devoted husband, son, loving father and faithful friend. He is survived by his wife G. Barbara Cox, daughter Shannon Michelle Cox Lynch from Austin, TX, son Edward Cox, stepson Craig Dixon (Stephanie), stepdaughter Cathy Dixon (Rich), Brother William ‘Bill’ Cox (Cindy) from Houston, TX; sister Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Cox Hess from Vero Beach, one grandson Brandon Cox of Orlando; and, his many cousins, nieces and nephews and one great niece.
Waiting for him in heaven are his father Harry Edward Cox and mother Anne Pender Cox; his granddaughter Courtney Cox and his beloved baseball and basketball friends who have passed before him.
Don was a beautiful man with a huge heart, deep courage, and a great capacity for unselfish and committed love. He will always be missed, always be loved, and never forgotten.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial in Rockledge, Florida, followed by burial service and refreshments on Friday, April 6, 2018starting at 1:00 p.m.
