Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1929 to the late Harold "Sug" and Caroline (Royer) McGovney, Doris moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1945. In October of 1950, she married the late Charles A. Butler, Sr., and spent approximately 30 years as a dedicated military wife and mother to their three children. Though a quiet woman, Doris was known for speaking her mind and for her unwavering support of her children and grandchildren.
Doris was a strong, independent woman whose presence immensely enriched the lives of those she knew. She was an active member of numerous organizations, including the Elks Ladies Auxiliary of Melbourne (where she served as past president), the Eastern Star Magic City Chapter of Tulsa (lifetime member), the Daughters of the American Revolution (Commodore John Berry Chapter, NSDAR), the Red Hats-Crimson Bonnets, the AARP Melbourne Chapter (past president), and the Moose Lodge of Melbourne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Caroline McGovney; her sister, Lucy McGovney Freiburg; her brother, Harry McGovney; her husband, Charles A. Butler, Sr.; her daughter, Jennifer Ann Butler; and her son, Geary Allen Butler.
She is survived by her son, Charles A. Butler, Jr. and his wife, Marcia; five grandchildren, Heather, Tabitha, Charlene, Jennifer, and Geary II; her sister-in-law, Janice Reagan; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. While she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is finally reunited with the loved ones who preceded her in death.
Please keep our family in your thoughts during this time.
