

Doris Simmons Willett passed peacefully in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on March 23, 2022. She was 91. Born to Luther and Myra (Mitchell) Simmons on Nov 2, 1930 in Sugar Grove, West Virginia. She played basketball and graduated Franklin High School class of 1948. After high school she entered the nursing program at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, graduating in 1951 and working as a Registered Nurse there for 9 years.
Doris married "Bob" Willett in 1960 and traveled the world during his service with the Navy. They lived in Subic Bay, Philippines where their daughter was born in 1963, Adak, Alaska, Ceiba,Puerto Rico, and Winter Harbor, ME. Upon Bob's retirement, the family settled in Merritt Island, FL in 1973.
After Bob died in 1988, Doris worked 7 days a week for 25 years. Monday through Friday she kept records at the Space Coast Cancer Center, and spent weekends running the north concessions stand at the Super Flea.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert H Willett, brothers Stelman Simmons, Norman Simmons, and Sheldon Simmons, sisters Leota Willson, Frances Oland, and Peggy Renner, brothers-in-law William Willson, Edwin Oland, sister-in-law JoAnn Simmons, and best friend Aida Miller.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie Willett Kleinman, and son-in-law Greg Kleinman, brother Herman Simmons, sister-in-law Anna Ruth Simmons, brother-in-law William Renner, and lifelong friend Michael Miller.
Doris was the "Fun Aunt" to her 15 nieces and nephews, and hosted Thanksgiving at her home for 45 years. A real "green thumb" in the garden, crossword/cryptogram completer, "high roller" bowler, loved backyard badminton and board games.
A graveside service for Doris will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955.
