Elaine Jourdan Cichon

Elaine Jourdan Cichon, passed away peacefully in the care of the Vitas Inpatient Hospice at Rockledge, FL at the age of 76. Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her husband Frederick P. (Fred). Dear mother to Frederick A. (Andy) (US Navy ret.). Beloved Grandma to Whitney and Emma. Predeceased by her mother Elise (Greenup) Jourdan, beloved uncle Andrew Bryan and dear aunt Helen Potter. She is also remembered by very special friends and colleagues Janice Barrett, Dr. Jennifer Fluri, Marilyn Holt, and many others.

Elaine was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 12, 1945. She grew up in Centralia, IL and Knoxville, TN. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1968 with a degree in biology. She completed her master’s degree in communication from the University of Miami in 1992. As a speech and communication instructor she held positions at Florida International University (Miami), Broward State College (Ft. Lauderdale), Barry University (Miami Shores), and Florida East Coast College. In all her teaching assignments she was held in high regard by her students, colleagues, and administrators. Elaine held positions as an educational consultant with Nystrom Division of Herff Jones, Harper & Row, HarperCollins, and The Research Institute of America.

She served as consultant for General Physics and participated in projects under the direction of the United States Agency for International Development in locations throughout the world including Cairo, South Africa, Bulgaria, Peru, and Costa Rica.

Elaine was a voracious reader with tastes spanning from the Harry Potter series to novels by Georgette Heyer to American poetry which she could recite by heart. She loved cruising with Fred and her many friends. Her travels took her to Australia, Hawaii, and London.

The family wishes to acknowledge the special care and comfort extended to Elaine over the last several years by the staff in the memory care unit at the Chateau Madeleine (Antwan and Liberty) and the Vitas Inpatient Care facility in Rockledge.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 am.at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens, US 1 in Rockledge, FL. Interment will follow in the cemetery followed by a luncheon in the Life Event Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chateau Madeleine (205 Hardoon Lane, Melbourne, FL 32940) or Vitas Hospice (4450 Eau Gallie Blvd. Suite 250, Melbourne, FL 32935).
