EJ was born in Cecil, PA, in 1937. In 1956, at nineteen years old, EJ enlisted in the United States Air Force. Initially serving as a specialist in the Air Force Religious Program, he later transitioned to a supervisory position and then General Manager of Air Force clubs. He was always known as a strong, caring leader who set others up for success as he served around the world in Greenland, Texas, Thailand, Japan, Washington D.C., and other locations overseas and in the United States. In 1973, EJ met and married Jo Ann Ceravolo while they both served in the Air Force. After 24 years of honorable service and earning promotions to the highest enlisted pay grade, Chief Master Sergeant (E9), EJ retired in 1980.
The last assignment of EJ's military career, selection to lead one of the Air Force's most prestigious service facilities, the Pentagon's Executive Dining Facility for the Air Force Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force, served as the culmination of a first career and the transition to immediately begin a second as General Manager of a major country club, River Bend Golf and Country Club, in Great Falls, VA. His success led to additional club management positions at Belleville Country Club in Illinois and at Vero Beach Country Club in Florida.
EJ was a gifted musician, performing in a local band in high school, the Anton Kay Band, and performing in the Air Force Band. He especially enjoyed entertaining his family and friends by playing his accordion. EJ was a member of the SNPJ, VFW, CMAA, and American Legion. He also found great joy in hosting both small family gatherings and large events with his many friends, sharing his expert cooking abilities in delicious meals and dishes that were always complemented by his warm, personal, and engaging hospitality. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
