Erma Lee Lorch, 86, of Melbourne, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Daniel George Lorch, Sr. She is survived by her four children/spouses, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren – Dr. Daniel Lorch, Jr. (Kristi) of Valrico, FL; Mary Manley (David) of Huntington Beach, CA; John Lorch of Cape Canaveral, FL; and Paul Lorch (Lucie) of Melbourne, FL. Her surviving grandchildren include Daniel Lorch, III (Emily) and children of Scarsdale, NY; Steven Lorch (Christina) and children of Valrico, FL; Robert Lorch (Kathy) of Raleigh, NC; Ansley Dafnis (Chase) and child of Gainesville, FL; Margaret Kathryn Lorch of Valrico, FL; Alyssa Lorch of St Petersburg, FL; Eric Lorch of Cape Canaveral, FL; and Kevin Lorch of Cape Canaveral, FL; Antoinette Ferry (Patrick) and children of Satellite Beach, FL; and Brittany Holstine (Scott) and child of West Melbourne, FL. She is survived by her sisters Julie Ann Corn of London, OH and Ruth Ellen Woolever of Stoutsville, OH. She is predeceased by her brother Jack Reichelderfer of Mount Sterling, OH, and sister Rosemary Schwaigert of Hilliard, OH.
Erma was born on April, 27, 1932 in Mount Sterling, OH. She attended elementary and high school in Mount Sterling, and was the Ohio State spelling champion in 1946, representing the state in Washington, D.C. at the National Spelling Bee that year. She attended Ohio State University. Erma was loving wife and accompanied her husband, Dan, on his many Air Force postings, including those in Texas, Japan, Ohio, and Wyoming. At the completion on Dan’s military career, the family took an extended holiday, camping throughout the country and settling in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Erma and Dan lived there forty years raising their children, working in the church, traveling, and growing old together. Erma’s final years were spent happily with her youngest son, Paul, and his wife at their home in Melbourne, FL, where she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church 610 Young St. Melbourne, FL 32935 at 2:00pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at son, Paul’s house 1381 Pineapple Ave. Melbourne, FL 32935
