With his daughter, Cindy, and son, Jeff, by his side, Ferd Winget Jr. joined his beloved wife Pat in heaven on July 3, 2026. He spent a well-lived and exemplary 97 years with us. Fondly remembering him are his three children, Ferd III (Debbie), Jeff (Dolly), Cindy (Susan) and their families.
Ferd was born in Lima, Ohio, graduated high school, where he met his life-mate Pat, and worked at factory jobs in the area. Soon after, he joined the Air Force and was sent to San Antonio, Texas, for training. He returned to Lima to marry Pat then swept her back to San Antonio where their first son, Ferd III, was born. He was then assigned to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, where their second son, Jeff, was born. After some temporary assignments in
Champagne-Urbana, Illinois, and West Palm Beach, Florida, they moved to Dover AFB, Delaware where their daughter, Cindy, was born. At this point in his military career, he could request an assignment and the family was rewarded with a relocation to Hickam AFB, Hawaii, from 1965 to 1968. From paradise, they spent a year in the desert at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. After a full career in the Air Force he chose Patrick AFB, Florida, as his retirement relocation and the family finally laid down roots in the Eau Gallie/Melbourne area in 1969. There he found employment at Sears, Prudential, and Radiation/Harris Semiconductor. After semi-retirement (again), he and Pat opened a drink and snack stand called “The Lemon Tree” in the Brevard mall.
Ferd and Pat volunteered at the St. Paul’s United Methodist (Highland Fellowship) thrift shop for many years where he was “Mr. Fix-it” for all the donated items that needed a little tune up. They delivered Meals on Wheels to people less fortunate than them.
They spent many days after school with their grandkids and often picked up their grand dog after doggie day care. Ferd was a wonderful father, grandfather, and devoted husband. He loved jokes, recited poems, and held his wife’s hand for 73 years.
His family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff members at both Victoria Landing and Zon Beachside for the excellent care he received.
Services will be held at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge Florida on the occasion of his 98th birthday - Thursday July 16 at 12:30 pm followed by a reception from 1 to 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
