He was born in Roanoke, Virginia and came to Brevard County in 1966. He graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Roanoke College, after which he joined the Marine Corps and was a member of the “Chosin Few”. He served in the Marine Corps from 1946-1951 and was a veteran of WWII and The Korean War. He was a disabled veteran and a member of the DAV, American Legion and the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He was also a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He worked for the U.S. Government at Patrick’s Air Force Base as a Procurement Analyst, and in 1973 was awarded the Federal Employee of the Year, the Handicapped Federal Employee of the Year as well as the employee who made the outstanding contribution to equal opportunity.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years; Maureen Linda Whorley, daughters; Penny Lynn Foks and her husband Jelle Foks, Kelly Ann McGrath and her husband Tom McGrath, Ashley June Whorley, and stepdaughter; Nicole Jean Pelletier, Son; Gage Michael Whorley. He also leaves grandchildren; Nico Foks, Maddy Foks both of California, William J. Loy, Frank J. Loy, Aiden Loy and Starr McGrath.
A visitation will be held at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 US HWY 1, Rockledge, FL 32955 on Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 1-2pm with a service to follow at 2pm. Interment will be in Florida Memorial Gardens with military honors from the United States Marine Corps. After the service, everyone is invited to VFW Post # 4206, 3201 Dairy Rd. Melbourne, FL 32904 beginning at 4:30pm.
