Gary Nelson Hamilton

Gary attended Eastern Carolina University on a football scholarship and finished his education earning a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Science and Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. When he retired in 1998, Lieutenant Colonel Hamilton served his last assignment at The Pentagon after that he worked as a defense contractor with Patrick AFB until 2014.

Gary moved his family to Brevard County in 1998; he was a member of the Patrick Air Force Manatee Cove Marina. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and was a diehard East Carolina Fan. A loving, husband, father, brother, friend and patriot, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Colin L Hamilton, Maj Gen USAF (Ret) and his mother, Lois Rae Hamilton.

Gary is survived by his wife, of 31 years, Sonya Rae Hamilton, who also served in the USAF; his daughter, Kendall Rae Hamilton; his brother, Mark Hamilton, Lt Col USAF (Ret) and his wife, Terri Hamilton, Lt Col USAF (Ret); his sister, Dr. Jody Rae Hamilton-Foy and her husband, Jon Foy who both also served in the USAF and his brother-in-law, Scott Olson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a Celebration of his Life held at 11:00 am on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL.
