At 95 years of age she has overcome illness after illness and survived many a fall for the last 5 or 6 years. Alzheimer’s disease slowly took her mind as age took her body. Wheelchair bound, she managed to mind everyone’s business while strolling the aisles of the nursing home. Her icy wit, dry humor and outspoken opinions are not soon to be forgotten. She was a loving, jovial, opinionated, honest, bossy, sweet and sour. Her antics entertained some and offended others, but Gladys delighted in being in the middle of things and speaking her piece. She was spunky.
For those who enjoyed and loved her, she will be missed. Her last fall took a toll on her. A broken leg and a raging bacterial infection caused a rapid decline in body and mind. After some time in hospice she was returned to her room where she was kept as comfortable as possible. There were prayers for her.
At 8:30 pm, August 17, 2015, God made the decision to give her rest and take her home. She closed her eyes and her spirit was released to begin her eternal journey. She will not remember all the suffering. She will receive a heavenly body and a clear mind. The next time she opens her eyes, she will see Jesus. Thanks to Him for leading her into total wellness and well-earned rest.
Gladys’ remaining relative are, niece Frankie Jeffreys, great niece Melinda Marquardt, great nephew Jack Jeffreys, Jr., all local and niece Billie Williams in Wilmington, NC.
There will be a gathering for people who care to celebrate Gladys’ life together, in the assisted living dining area at Courtenay Springs, 1200 South Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, 2:30 to 4:00 pm on Monday, August 24, 2015. Thanks to all who have prayed for Gladys. She is resting in peace.
