

She was born in Garden City, Michigan in 1931. She married Virgil Campbell of Muncie, Indiana in 1949 where they were long time residents. She received her master’s degree in education from Ball State University in 1969. She taught second grade in Indiana for 8 years. After relocating to Brevard County in 1977 she taught speech and hearing for 14 years. After retirement she first volunteered and then eventually became an employee of the Central Brevard Sharing Center for 16 years. Irene became an avid painter and was a member of the Brevard Art Association for some years. Her paintings were on display in local businesses throughout Brevard County.
Irene was a generous and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was a great southern cook and everyone especially loved her ham dinners. There was always everyone’s favorite food at her house in anticipation of when they would visit. She was a great friend to her daughter, Karen. They loved to shop and travel together. She will be forever remembered and missed by all those lucky enough to have known her.
She is survived by daughter, Karen Leighton of Rockledge, Florida; and son Michael Campbell of Red Wing, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Virgil and her son William Campbell. She also is survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers.
