It's been two years now since I lost you.  I just watched the tribute video again and it brought back so many great memories of our life   and love for each other. Jan, I still love you and think about you every day.  Life has moved on for me in some ways, but I can't wait for the day we meet again.

Words cannot express how much I love and will miss you grandma. From the tea parties and shopping, to helping me with my homework when you would pick me up after school, I’ll always have fond memories of our time together. You taught me so many things in life that I will never forget, and I’ll be sure to tell your stories so you can live on in memory. You are my best friend and you always will be in my heart. Thank you so much for everything you ever did for me. You have no idea how much it means. I’ll miss you and I’ll see you again one day. 

My best friend growing up was Mrs. Hord’s (Janice) son Dave. Mrs. Hord became my second mom.  In high school I went to church with Dave and his family.  In a world and time where I rarely felt accepted, I always felt like part of the Hord family.  Their home was a place I always felt accepted and safe. 

When I was a teen, I remember my parents having to leave town, leaving me by myself.  Just after they left, Mr. and Mrs. Hord invited me to stay with their family, which I did.  I never felt like a guest, but just another member of their family unit.  It was a great weekend. 

To my second family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Your mom, Dave and your family made such a difference in my life.  Please accept my thanks for being part of my life.

I've never felt more welcome than I have with Ken and Jan. Jan welcomed me with apprehensive but open arms when i first met her over 10 years ago when I began dating Alyssa.

I have a rare look from the outside sometimes, and I truly enjoy being able to see things from that perspective because it gives so much insight on the way people truly are. 

Jan was the exact same loving person from the time I met her to just a few months ago when we last visited. I enjoyed long hugs with my newest grandmother and seeing the light in her eyes when she saw us...every...single...time. We've  shared incredible laughs, and she always welcomed Alyssa's friends as well as my own as if she has known them all her life. 

I didn't need a lifetime to know who she was, and I didn't need more than a few minutes to see the love that Ken has for her. We all loved to watch her live life to the fullest on her own terms while spreading positive outlooks on every scenario given. I will miss her dearly. I'm thankful I got to see so many years of true love (though sometimes stubborn). I'm thankful I have had them to look to for lessons of working together, work ethic, and how you leave a mark on this world. 

She was truly remarkable, and while my post here will never do justice...she was a role model of how to be HAPPY, and I will always be grateful for having known her. A rare light that never dimmed, and will never.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this love note in honor of a truly wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, our friend & “sister of my heart”.  We love you Jan!
 
Our friendship was destined!  
 
Fifty plus years ago two young guys, unknown to each other, were just beginning their careers and married life when they took a job at Graybar Electric.  A friendship began, and although the guys each went on to other jobs and different careers, the bond of friendship for the “guys” and the “girls” has lasted a fetime. 
 
Fond memories of two young couples with limited budgets getting together to play cards and splurging on chips and dip.  Our lives revolved around each of our growing families.  We loved getting together with our kids and have fond memories of our Frankenmuth chicken dinners and taking pictures each year of the kids growing up as they sat on what came to be known as the Frankenmuth “rock”.
 
Jan was beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside and truly brilliant. My friend loved to play Scrabble with me and this is probably the only fib she ever told me, “Sari you are doing great!” While I was making words like “cat or dog” she was using all her letters and landing on a triple square to boot! 
Jan 24 points!  Sari 4 points!  I want a rematch!
 
Note to GOD!
 
Start practicing your Scrabble moves because our friend needs someone who can give her a challenge.

It is the great honor of those who have known a great person to carry with them their memories of love and wisdom. I am happy to have had so many wonderful memories, and have been able to share so much time with my Grandmother. I am glad beyond words that my children will get to carry into the next generation all of the memories of love they were able to share with this wonderful woman. I will never forget, and she will never be forgotten.

I really don't know how to sum up someone's life in just a few short minutes. 

I think it is impossible to do except to say that for Mom it was all about love. I remember her saying this at Nana's passing. 

Her love for us was unconditional even when we did stupid things. 

Mom was a great woman, she always worried for us, she always prayed for us, and her focus always was for us to have the best life. 

Mom's life had great purpose. She was a woman of integrity, grace, and thoughtfulness and will always be remembered and missed.

David

As has been said already, Jan & I have been married for 57 years and together for 62 years, since we were both 16 years old. I've been asked many times by many people, "What does it take to stay together that long?" My answer has always been compromise and patience, but mostly love. We have been in love every day, month, and year of that time. Yes, there have been the rocky times, disagreements, and arguments, just like every marriage, but in the end, love has always won out. 

We have three of the best children any marriage could possibly have. Each successful in their own fields. Each have great spouses and each have beautiful families of their own. Mom and I are thankful everyday for the love of our children, grandchildren, and soon-to-be three great grandchildren. We hope that we have always been a positive influence on each of them. Most of all we hope that our love has always shown through to each of them in every way. 

I love and miss you so much Grandma. I will always hold on to all the fond memories we shared throughout my entire life, everything from our girl outings and talks about boys, school and life in general to our last time out to eat at your favorite place, Shells. I will never forget all our tea parties, shopping dates, going up north, and countless memories at all the places you lived. You made me laugh all the time and had a way of making me feel so special to you. I will always remember the times we spent together as vividly as our last hug and kiss goodbye. 
You've always supported my choices, my husband and your great grandbaby on the way! I can feel you with me and apart of me now and forever. I am so sad that you are not here anymore, but I will not forget what you told me in Cocoa: don't worry about me when I'm gone I don't want anyone to worry about me, I won't ever be gone, and the place I will be in is full of love, light and bliss. 
I love you so much, you are an amazing mother and grandmother, and apart of who I am now and for the rest of my life. I know you are resting in peace with your mother and father, your sister and your friends. I will see you again when we meet together in that place of love, light and bliss.

She gave endlessly without reservation,
She believed in living life in whatever way draws on joy,
Joy was in the giving and receiving of gifts that represented boundless love.

One of the strongest people I know is a believer.
She believed in a God without limits,
She believed in a savior to intervene,
She believed she would be carried away on the eagle’s wings,
She believed she would see everyone again with angel wings in glory.

Mama was a fighter, a teacher, a giver and a believer.
No one was ever a stranger,
She always understood,
She always loved in abundance,
She will never be forgotten because the seeds she planted will never die.


My condolences to the family. You’re one of my parents (Bob and Sari) closest friends and the bond you and my mother share is so special. It is a blessing and honor to be able to think of you and call you my Aunt Jan. Even though life has our two families travelling multiple paths, I have fond memories and often think of the annual Frankenmuth dinners and the picture on the “Big Rock” chronicling the family’s growth by year. You will be missed but never forgotten.
