Jean (Glenna Jean Smith) was born February 12, 1927, in Jackson Ohio, where she graduated from high school. She married Earl Martin in 1947 and they celebrated 51 years together until his death in 1999. Their 5 children were born in Ohio before the family moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1963. Jean continued to live in the same house in which she raised her children, until her failing heath necessitated a move to Tallahassee to be with her family.
Jean loved to bowl and played in leagues until she was 92. As her neighbors will attest, working in her yard gave her the greatest pleasure. Her friends will remember game days at her house and attending Bingo nights at various locations. Her children will cherish memories of fishing trips, homemade desserts and the many family reunions (horseshoe tournaments!) she hosted at her home. Her grandchildren will hold dear the afternoons they spent with her playing Scrabble, Dominos and Yahtzee games. Jean loved to travel and family trips took her all over the United States and Europe. Her excellent physical stamina and fun disposition made her a great travel companion- she will be missed in so many, many ways.
She is survived by her children: Paul (Mary) Martin of Tallahassee; Sheila (Dennis) Costigan of Sapphire, North Carolina; Mike (Gayle) Martin of Tampa, Florida; Terry (Ike) Eisenzimmer of Georgetown, Texas. Her 10 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Wendy) Martin; Ryan (Catherine) Costigan; Kelly Jean (Christopher) Mitchem; Michele (Mike) Caruvana; Craig (Hennessey) Costigan; Matthew (Reilly) Martin; Cameron (Lindsay) Martin; Luke (Alicia) Martin; Madison (Tommy) Comfort; and Nick Martin. Her great-grandchildren: Emma Jean Martin, Josh Martin, John Aaron Costigan, Grace Costigan, Isabel and Siena Caruvana. And, her many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Jean.
She was preceded in death by her son, Keith (Dawn) Martin of Canton, Georgia.
A family celebration of life will be held in the future.
