Jean Harriett Heathman Webb, 97, passed May 21, 2026. Jean was born September 18, 1928, to Brooks and Katharyn T. Heathman in Dayton, Ohio. She was brought up in Oakwood, Ohio, and graduated from Oakwood High School in 1946. She continued her education graduating from Russell Sage College in Albany, New York.
In 1948 she married Frank E. Cowan, and after living a few years in Hobart, New York, the family moved with their two young boys to Sarasota, Florida around 1953, where their third child, Katharyn Elizabeth, was born.
In the mid 1960’s she married Archie Webb and together they purchased and operated the Farnsworth School of Art on Siesta Key, Florida. By the late 1980’s they retired to Melbourne, Florida, continuing their lifelong interest in art.
Jean was an attentive, caring, hard working and definitive person. She was a great conversationalist and her ever present wit and perceptive intellect kept those about her alert, if not smiling. She loved and took great joy in home furnishings, especially family antiques. Portraitures, landscapes, seascapes and abstract art abound in their home.
Her husband, Archie, was an accomplished and recognized portraitist.
She will be remembered and missed by her family. She is survived by a daughter, Cassie Luer, of Melbourne, FL, a son, Frank Cowan, of Chattanooga, TN, six grandchildren, Erica Sykut, Ella Schwochert and Nicholas Stephan, Brooks Cowan, Matthew Cowan and Thomas Cowan, (great grandchildren) and a brother, Brooks Heathman, Jr., along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, John Chappell Cowan, her parents, a sister Sara Grace Heathman Harrington, and former husbands Archie Webb and Frank E. Cowan.
