

ROCKLEDGE – James “Jim” Timmons, 72, passed away peacefully at home in Rockledge. He was preceded in death by his father Wilson. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his mother Julie, son Joe (Jillian); four grandchildren: Jayden, Joseph Jr., Jolie, and Julianna; three brothers – Wilson Jr. (Beth), Richard, and Andrew; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family is so very grateful to the people who cared for Jim over the past several years: Wendy Lopez, the nurses and staff of St. Francis Hospice, and the caregivers of Assisting Hands.
Jim was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. The family moved to Cocoa in 1963. He attended St. Mary’s school in Rockledge. Jim graduated from Cocoa High School, where he was on the wrestling team and pole-vaulted for the Track team. He received a B.S. in Recreation from the University of Florida, with minors in Music and Technical Theater. He completed a Master Conservation course in Wildlife and Park Management. He earned a teacher’s certificate in Physical Education. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in North Italy.
Before his brain injury in 1985, Jim was athletic, an accomplished guitarist, and an outdoorsman. He worked a variety of interesting jobs, including vocational coordinator for The Children’s Home, Aquatic Supervisor/Counselor Training Associate for Eckerd Wilderness Educational System, Recreation Leader internship with Brevard County Recreation and Parks, and a Recreation Specialist with the St. Petersburg Department of Leisure Services. He used his guitar skills in many folk masses at churches in Gainesville, St. Augustine, and St. Petersburg. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockledge.
Funeral arrangements are with Florida Memorial, Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with burial at Florida Memorial Cemetery.
