My mother passed away peacefully in Eagle River, Alaska. She will be remembered as a loving mother that would do anything for her sons.
She is survived by her son, Britt de Cormier and daughter-n-law Carisa de Cormier, Grandchildren Marisa de Cormier, Brittany de Cormier, Kailey Harvey (de Cormier), Kyle de Cormier, Cameron de Cormier, Michael de Cormier, Mercedes de Cormier and Great Grandchildren Luna Harvey, Nova Harvey and Adilynn de Cormier. Joanna was born in Crystal City Texas. My mother’s family moved to Arriba Colorado to pursue wheat farming. She met my father Melvin de Cormier in Colorado Springs during her career as a Hair Dresser. My father was in the USAF and they were transferred to Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach FL.
They moved to Merritt and had my brother Robert de Cormier. I was born 16 Years later at PAFB. She worked at Harris a short time assembling radios. My parents’ final home together was 201 Seagull Drive Satellite Beach Florida, which Britt de Cormier (son) was raised for 18 years. They were married over 50 years. My mother was an amazing woman! She would do anything for me and see that I was relatively safe doing it. She took me skating every week and loved to watch me zoom around the rink.
My mother would commonly refer to me as “Beastie” when we were joking around. Little did I know she coined the nickname from Buzz Aldrin when he saw the “Beasties” in space as he was orbiting the Moon. She would really laugh when I referred to her as “Mommy Swamy”. She was a very loving woman and had a great sense of humor. I will miss her dearly. I will miss all of your hugs and kisses Mom. Love you Mom, Britt.
