John Johansen was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 18, 1950. He was the son of Norman Johansen and Thelma Sarandrea and the brother of his younger sisters Doris Haught and Janet Johansen. John spent his first 26 years playing stickball in the streets, going to school, and working in Brooklyn before moving to Maine, where eventually he met the love of his life, Marjorie Johansen.
John was a man of many trades. He drove trucks - delivering oil in South Portland, Maine. He owned and operated the World Famous Munch Mobile, a food truck in Old Orchard Beach. He fabricated and installed marble countertops. And he owned and operated a pest control company in Brevard County for 17 years.
But more than anything, John was a family man. John married Margie in Scarborough, Maine in 1978. They went on to have four kids - Jennifer, Jessica, Michael, and Matt. He loved his six grandchildren - Kalena Chellos, Kaden Chellos, Ryleigh Beairsto, Dawson Johansen, Penelope Johansen, and Briar Johansen. His family didn’t end there. John had many nieces and nephews that he held close to his heart. John seemed happiest in the presence of his family. Even as his time came to an end, the sound or sight of his grandchildren would wake him from his sleep and put a smile on his face.
John was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer in October 2019. He was a fighter. He and his family sought every reasonable medication and procedure to restore his health and maintain a good quality of life for him. John spent his final weeks enjoying time with his immediate and extended family, before succumbing to the disease at his home on November 8, 2020.
John was a good man with a big personality. And for that, he had many family members and friends that cared for him.
A service will be held November 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Florida Memorial Gardens located at 5950 S US Hwy 1 Rockledge, Fl 32955. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
This service is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.
