Joseph Charlton Davis

Joseph Charlton Davis, age 81, of Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2025. He was born on January 26, 1943, in Magnolia, North Carolina. Joe moved to Brevard County in 2009 from Rockville, Maryland.

Joe served his country with honor in the United States Navy for 21 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO4). During his service, he was stationed on 7 different naval ships. He served as a Fire Control Officer specializing in Surface to Air Missiles for 7 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served multiple tours in Vietnam, where he earned several commendations including the Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (6 times), Vietnam Service Medal with 9 Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Professionally, he was a dedicated Electrical Engineer, serving with the U.S. Navy and later with a private company for an additional 21 years.

He was married to Velma Jolene Davis for 60 years, having wed on August 29, 1964. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Charlton Davis, his mother, Catherine Godfrey Davis, his brothers, Kenneth Davis and John Davis, and his son, Michael Davis. He is survived by his loving wife, Velma Jolene Davis; his son, James Davis (Shelly); his brother, Timothy Davis (Karen); his grandchildren, Peyton, Chase (Zoe), Hannah, Nathan, Gyllian Smith, Sydney Savage (Ricky), and Joseph, Michael and Hayleigh Davis; and his great-grandchild, Mila Davis.

Joe was known for his love of military history, restoring cars, golfing, traveling in his motorhome, and sharing his many sea stories. His passions and stories will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A visitation for Joseph will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida. With a funeral service at 11:00 AM. His committal service will will be at 1:30 PM in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US Highway 1, Mims, Florida.
