Joseph Paul Garmon of Melbourne, Florida passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Lovington, Illinois to James and Ezra and preceded in death by his eight brothers and one sister. He spent most of his childhood in Kentucky growing up on a farm. His loving wife of 50 years, Charlotte Garmon, also preceded him in death. He has two children he was very fond of, Sandra and Joe.
He served in the Army during the Korean War in New York, El Paso, and Europe specializing in early radar controlled anti-aircraft artillery. He later worked for Chrysler Corporation as a pattern-maker and later worked on the design of the original hemi and slant six engines. After retiring from Chrysler, he moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1988 where he and his wife enjoyed life. During retirement, he and his wife worked with Enterprise Car Rental.
Joe had many hobbies and activities. When much younger, he used to rebuild and race stock cars at smaller tracks in Indianapolis and was closely involved with Chrysler at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Later in life, he loved vacation road trips, made and sold stained glass, and volunteered in local stage theaters. He was loved by everyone that met him where friends became family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Francis Reflections Hospice in Titusville.
Funeral services and entombment will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida.
