Joseph P. Murphy

Joe is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Allison (Brendan) Cunningham and Daniel Murphy; mother, Ann Murphy; sisters, Maryellen (John) Jones, and Susan (John) Sawyer; and nine nieces and

nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Anthony Murphy.

Joe Murphy’s career spanned a multitude of different disciplines. Regardless of the chapter in life he was on, one thing remained constant and consistent: He never gave anything less than his all. He was never in an office environment – he thrived on interaction with people and society. He loved nothing better than to put a smile on someone’s face and to talk about anything on a person’s mind.

His company, Caring Transitions, helped and touched so many people through difficult times, thanks in no small part to Joe’s uncanny ability to make sure everyone was comfortable and had what they needed and desired.

He graduated from Paterson University with a bachelor’s degree in business. His hobbies included fishing; his eternal love for the New York Yankees and the New York Football Giants; getting a tan in the pool; a delicious dessert; and, most importantly, having fun. He loved going to the local gym and becoming a “boxer” with his Rock Steady friends. Throwing a good party and getting people together always brought a smile to his face. He was passionate about music – and he always played it at high volume.

The only thing he might have loved more than his family was a weeklong cruise through the Caribbean, sipping on daiquiris, going to shows, eating for three, and spending time with the love of his life, his wife Linda. He adored his family and friends to no end, never failing to make sure everyone was happy, content, and having a good time – often by sharing his unique sense of humor with anyone in earshot.

His family meant more to him than anything else. He persevered through adversity with a smile and never wished to burden anyone with anything. “Play the hand you’re dealt” was his motto in life, and he applied it at all times, including after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 10 years ago. He was neighborly, loving, caring, smart, witty, creative, friendly, incredibly hardworking, and patient. He was unfailingly generous with his time, his presence, his humor, and his love.

Joe will be remembered as a committed husband, a thoughtful brother, a wonderful son, a committed friend, and the greatest father anyone could ever hope for.
