Josie was born April 9, 1936, in Thomaston, Georgia, to George Washington and Nellie Cornelia Cavender, and was number 10 of 11 siblings. She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, John David (Pete) Andrews; they raised their family in Marietta, Georgia, before moving to Rockledge, Florida in 1989.
Josie (86 years old) was preceded in death by her husband Pete, and is survived by her one remaining sibling Betty Mewbourn, by her three daughters and their spouses--Sarah Jane Lane (Allen), Patricia Nehme (Charles) and Pam Andrews (Marlene Good); her 3 grandchildren—Stephanie Ann Crabbe, Michelle and John Nehme (wife Rachel); and her 7 great grandchildren—Isabella Madison Crabbe and Lily Rain Snodgrass, Cora Blahuta, and Meira, JJ, Liam and Phillip Nehme.
Professionally, Josie trained and worked as a Surgical Technician, skillfully assisting doctors in a wide range of surgical procedures in both the Cobb County, Georgia and Brevard County, Florida hospitals. One of her greatest joys was found in her creative expression of baking cakes. Josie was especially known for her Rum, German Chocolate and Coconut Cakes. Growing requests for her cakes led Josie to start her own small cake business.
Those closest to Josie, especially her children, will best remember Josie’s gift of hospitality. She was the consummate southern chef, delighting her family and guests with her most sought-after recipes—some of which were her fried chicken, chicken dumplings, chicken and dressing, fried okra, collard greens, biscuits, ham, and red-eye gravy, among others.
Josie’s infectious smile and laughter, her playful spirit and sense of humor, those all-day shopping sprees, and her high energy and fierce will, are some of the many endearing traits that will be fondly remembered, as well as Josie’s work ethic and resilience. Josie always said that God had been good to her, and now, as her favorite Loretta Lynn song, In the Pines says, she’s on her way back home.
A visitation for Josie will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.FloridaMemorialFH-Gardens.com for the Andrews family.
