Born on April 1, 1963, in Sigonella, Sicily, the son of Navy veteran Harold A. Matern who was stationed there with his wife Betty Joan (Edwards) Matern.
He was the third of Harold’s and Betty’s four children. Other surviving siblings are Harold (Hal) E. Matern (Cindy), Mary Rebecca (Becky) Ahrens (Ron), and Kathy Lynn Matern.
Karl was beloved by all who knew him and had a passion for making others happy by giving and sharing in many ways. He retired from Walt Disney World after 20+ years to lovingly and selflessly care for his parents in the later years of their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold A. and his mother Betty Joan. He is survived by his 3 siblings: Hal, Becky, and Kathy.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Trinity Oaks of Matthew’s Hope sanctuary, 825 Forrest Avenue, Cocoa, Florida at 2 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3 PM at the same location. A reception will be held at the hall adjacent to the sanctuary following the Celebration of Life.
