

He was born on August 26, 1926 in Jonesville, Yadkin County, North Carolina.
Red was the seventh child of Commodore V. and Pearl Victoria Van Hoy. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and Air Force from July, 1943 to March 1970. He was a Higgins boat driver on LST 511 on June 6, 1944, D-Day at Omaha Beach, Normandy. Throughout his military career he served in Korea during the Korean War, Germany, Italy, Okinawa and various locations in the U.S. from 1962 thru 1969. He was assigned as a General’s Aide to five different Generals in Europe and Okinawa.
Kayo was married to Jennie Minetta who predeceased him. He is survived by his brother, Bobby Adams from Lewisville NC; children, Kenneth (Wife Karen) from Howell NJ; Keith (Wife Marjorie) from Dallas, PA, and Victoria from Indian Harbour Beach, FL; grandchildren, Kenneth Adams, Jennifer Buckley, Whitney Weaver, Hillary Holden, Mariel Welcker, Griffin Adams, Jess Adams and Nell George; great grandchildren, Caitlyn Buckley, Keira Buckley, Natalie Holden, Harper Weaver, Liesel Welcker, and a large extended family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL.
