Lawrence E. Hornback, 61, CMSGT USAF (RET) Civil Services (RET), passed away August, 6 with his loving wife Debbie by his side. He was born in Newport, RI and grew up in Glendale, KY where he met the love of his life Debra Owen Hornback. After their marriage in 1974, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served on active duty for 23 years. During his career Larry and Debbie were stationed at Fairchild AFB, Washington; Rickenbacker AFB Ohio, Hessisch Oldendorf AS , Germany; Loring AFB, Maine; Ramstein AB Germany; Lackland AFB, Texas; and the Pentagon, D.C. After active duty, he returned to Ramstein AB as a civil servant. Since 1999 Larry served at Patrick AFB with the 45th Force Services Squadron (FSS - The Best Never Rest) until retirement in May 2018.
Larry’s love of the Air Force was evident in the way he cared for his troops. The programs he created improved the lives and service of the enlisted force. Larry epitomized the core values, “Integrity First, Service Before Self, Excellence in All We Do.” In later years, Larry loved serving and mentoring younger military and civilian personnel.
Besides his wife of 44 years, Larry is survived by his daughters, Christy Newcomb, and Melissa Hornback-Emerson; Grandchildren William, Joshua, and Andrew Newcomb, Shelby and Logan Emerson; brothers Carl Hornback, Bob, Dick, Carl Swope; sisters, Katherine Redmond, Angela Keith, Theresa Palm, Mary Reed, Kathy Callahan. Larry was preceded in death by son, James Hornback and foster parents, Bill and Betty Swope.
Services will be held at Patrick South Chapel at 2:00 PM EST on Friday, August 10, 2018 with celebration following at the chapel annex.
