Liberty Lois Sakryd (1918 - 2012) age 94, born in Springfield, Illinois, daughter of John and Jessie Lee, Abergavenny, Wales, died September 22, 2012. Liberty moved from Cleveland, OH, to Eau Gallie, FL, with her husband, Victor, and their five children July, 1957; in 1994 she moved to Merritt Island.
A woman with a pioneer spirit, she believed a formal education was essential and to never give up an opportunity to learn. (Chairperson and Secretary); Society of Retired Air Force Nurses, Inc.; The Women's Memorial, Washington, DC; Received WWII Veteran's Honor and Remembrance Legacy Medallion, PAFB, Brevard.
Liberty is survived by two sisters, Gloria McLean, CA and Betty Kinsey, OH; her five children, Jessie Brown, OH, Virginia (Robert) Browning, AL, Terry (Debbie) Sakryd, AL, Robert (Connie) Sakryd, TN, Jo Anne (Thomas) Page, FL; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Wake held at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, Rockledge, Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.; Requiem Mass held at Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima and St. Cajetan Shrine, Brooksville, Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11:30 a.m.; Military Burial Ceremony held at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Friday, September 28, 2012 at 2:30 p.m.
