Lola Lee Carr

Lola Lee Carr, age 95, of Rockledge, Florida, peacefully departed this life on July 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Dillon, South Carolina on September 3, 1930, to Rosalie Norton and Cary McKenzie. She was the firstborn of six children. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Michael Edward Carr, her parents, her brother Percy Glendale Locklear, sisters Jacqueline Norton and Sheila Ford, and granddaughter Hannah Ruth Street. She is survived by her daughters Michelle Shutt (Gary), Terri Carr, Julie Carr, Debbie Shutterly (Martin), Karen Street (Steve), and grandchildren Brian Shutt (Alexa), Greg Shutt (Julie), Adam Shutt, Jennifer Kryszczynski (Brian), Rebecca Haufler, Melanie Haufler (Sloane), Susannah Haufler, Rachel Barfield (Kevin), Johnny DellaBella (Lauren), Pamela DellaBella, Nicholas DellaBella, Grace Bulman (David), James Tyler Street, 21 great grandchildren, and brothers James Thurmond Campbell and Michael Locklear.

While working in Sumter, South Carolina, Lola met the love of her life, Michael, who was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. They were married on June 13, 1951. Michael was deployed to England shortly after they were married, with Lola following months later, traveling alone on a ship that was caught in a typhoon. Ropes had to be installed to help passengers navigate the ship during the violent storm, and despite this, Lola later described the trip as “uneventful,” exemplifying her tenacious spirit. As the wife of a career military man, she managed many moves over the years, both stateside and overseas, handling every situation with composure and a positive attitude. She and Michael raised their five daughters in a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and the overarching principle of service toward others. 

Lola lived a rich life and was very involved in her community. She served as a Girl Scout leader, Bible School teacher, and school volunteer for many years. As her children got older, Lola applied for a job in a department store and was quickly promoted to a management position. Her many hobbies included sewing, reading, and walking on the beach. She also had a special passion for gardening. She loved cultivating beautiful flowers and was the recipient of many awards for her landscaped gardens. Later in life, she became an advocate for animals and dedicated herself to supporting numerous animal welfare organizations. Lola was truly the heartbeat of her family. She brought her children and grandchildren together every summer, where endless pool days, picnics, and sleepovers filled their home and created memories that would last a lifetime. She and Michael had a special love that stood the test of time. We can take solace knowing that they have been reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven. Lola will be greatly missed by all who love her and will remain in our hearts forever.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 S US 1, Rockledge, FL.
