Marilyn was born in Bronx, New York, on January 26, 1947, to Anna and Abraham Goodman. She worked as a teacher, and later a computer programmer, until her retirement. Marilyn married Neil Ortsman in 1968. They raised two daughters, Elissa and Sandra.
She enjoyed life, believing that it was important to seize the moment and do things when you had the opportunity. She and Neil spent summers camping and became official ‘Snowbirds’ in 2002, splitting their time between Melbourne Beach, Florida, and Pomona, NY. Marilyn had a knack for making friends wherever she went and was blessed with many lifelong friendships. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, playing mahjong, and listening to live music. She was known for her sharp mind and love of travel, and was grateful to have taken her first cruise in January, 2020 to celebrate 52 years of marriage.
She adored her family, particularly her five grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Abraham, and her mother, Anna. She is survived by her husband, Neil; her daughter, Elissa and son-in-law, Daniel Fromowitz; her daughter Sandra and son-in-law Tim Butler; her grandchildren Samuel, Risa, Matthew, Jonah and Lilliana; her sister, Eileen and brother-in-law, Jack; and many in-laws, aunts, an uncle, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at the Mt. Hebron Section of the Florida Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5950 South US highway 1, Rockeldge, FL at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Marilyn Ortsman to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation at https://dystonia-foundation.org/donate.
