Born in Savannah, Ohio, Marge made Melbourne, Florida her home beginning in 1969, where she lived for more than five decades. In 2023, she set out traveling in an RV with her son Steve and daughter-in-law Diane, before spending her final year in Ashland, Ohio.
Marge devoted 43 years to Civil Service, including 23 years at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, where she worked as a Program Analyst in the Directorate of Eastern Range Operations. The Eastern Range supported missile and rocket launches from Cape Canaveral Air Force Base and Kennedy Space Center—work Marge was deeply proud of. Because of her expertise and management role, she had the opportunity to visit four range sites: Grand Bahama, Grand Turk, Antigua, and Ascension Island, an impressive accomplishment for a female at the time, and experiences that reflected her sense of adventure and dedication.
She was married for 48 years to her beloved husband George. Together, they were avid campers and proud members of two camping clubs, spending countless weekends exploring, playing cards, and traveling throughout the United States. Marge and George raised their son Steve, who also developed a love of camping from his parents. Today, Steve and his wife Diane continue that tradition, traveling the United States together in their RV.
Marge’s greatest joy in life was her two granddaughters, Amanda and Elizabeth. Living right next door, Grandma’s house was a second home where the girls could always be found. From sleepovers and homemade pie and noodle-making lessons to endless games of cards, her door—and her heart—were always open. She took each granddaughter on their very first plane ride and instilled in them a lifelong love of camping, hard work, saving, and personal responsibility. The girls took Grams on one last trip together in July of 2024 to Lake St. Clair in Ontario, Canada.
Marge was preceded in death by her brothers Wade, Paul, Howard, Victor, Richard, Carl, and Marshall, along with her sisters Kathleen, Betty (Pifer), and Bonnie (Krause). She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who remember her fondly and enjoyed countless visits to her home in Florida.
She is survived by her son Steve and his wife Diane (Leeds) Brown; her granddaughters Amanda Brown and Elizabeth (Brown) Grant; and Elizabeth’s husband Luke.
A small family memorial will be held in Melbourne, Florida, celebrating Marge in the way she lived best: beginning with sunrise at the beach with her two granddaughters, breakfast at the Blueberry Muffin, bargain hunting at the thrift store where she volunteered for over two decades, a walk around the block she faithfully took every morning and evening, Pepsi floats enjoyed in the driveway from her macramé lawn chairs, and an evening meal of homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, baked apples, and her famous pie—followed, of course, by games of cards.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Marge’s memory by watching a sunrise, playing cards with the people you love, and having a slice of pie.
