

Major Marlin “Butchie” Jacobs, a proud and dedicated retired United States Army officer, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida. He was born on April 25, 1945, in York, Pennsylvania.
Butchie devoted a significant part of his life to serving his country. His military career was marked by dedication, courage, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to duty. He retired from the United States Army as a Major, leaving behind a distinguished record of service and numerous military honors.
Among his many decorations and awards were the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with seven campaigns, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with four awards, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal.
His service during the Vietnam era was an important chapter of his military career, and his many awards reflect the dedication and sacrifice he gave in service to his nation.
Butchie was also committed to education and personal achievement. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Park University in Missouri, where he was recognized on the Dean’s Honor List. His accomplishments reflected the same determination and discipline that characterized his military career.
He is survived by his sister, Wanda Butterworth, and her husband, Virgil “Bud” Butterworth, who were his immediate family.
