 I had the privilege of meeting Mary during the most formative years of my life. Around 15 years old.  When I was young I considered her as my “Bonus Mom”. When I sat down to write about Mary I had a very hard time putting down into words what made her so special.  It wasn’t her major accomplishments that she had achieved in her life but more the small wonders about her.  Her zest for life was infectious and she showed it in her laugh, her style, her hobbies, her cooking, her presence.  She was courageous and smart.She had the greatest sense of humor and charm. But mostly she was the epitome of natural elegance, class and simplicity combined into a perfect blend.  I loved that about her. 
Mary was truly a soul that had evolved.  Her ability to always see the good in anything or anyone has inspired me throughout my life.   She was always the eternal optimist.  
When she was getting married to Lew  she asked me if she could wear my white linen beach dress.  I was flattered that she would want to wear my simple dress on her wedding day!  When I saw her wearing the dress, it looked like a designer had created it specifically for her.  She had a way of making simple things look classy.  That was Mary. 
And then there were the little memories that I have always carried on in my life.  Whenever I use my wooden salad bowl, I think of Mary. When I go to art shows and see the beautiful pottery,  I think of Mary.  When I eat lasagna I think of Mary. Mary made the best lasagna…ever!  I’ve never tasted better.  
When you see the greeting card with all the black and white penguins standing in a  crowd but then there’s one that’s colorful, bright, smiling and dancing to her own beat… well… I think of Mary.
Mary was a  bright spot in my life.  And will always be in my heart.   ️ There was only one Mary.   Loving thoughts to Jeff, Steve and Glenn and their beautiful families.  I'm sorry I cannot make the Celebration but will be thinking of you.  I know Mary would understand.
