Mary P. Falvey, 89, passed away May 10, 2014 at the Rockledge Health and Rehab Center after battling the effects from a stroke that occurred on November 21, 2013. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She was born in New London, Connecticut.
Ms. Falvey is survived by her sons David, a Bankruptcy attorney in Groton, Connecticut; Thomas, a retired Police Chief from the Town of Groton Police department now living in Rockledge, Florida; James, a Retired Police Lieutenant from the Town of Groton Police Department and currently a probation officer in Florida residing in Satellite Beach.
Mary was married to David Frances Falvey Sr. who predeceased her in 1972. David Sr. died while still employed with the Town of Groton Police Department as Police Captain.
Mary leaves behind 6 grandchildren. Thomas and his wife Diane had 4 children. They are James (Jay), David (Sean) and Jacqueline (Jackie) Falvey. Jay and his wife Lizzie gave Mary her first great grandchild, Jameson. Jackie carries on the police tradition and is currently a sheriff’s deputy with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department. Thomas Jr., in an untimely passing, pre-deceased his Yia Yia (meaning “grandmother” in Greek), as Mary liked to be called by her grandchildren. Thomas Jr., left behind his son, Jack, who is well cared for by his mom, Emily. This was Mary’s second great grandchild. James and his wife, Carol, had 3 children, Brian, Eric and Amanda.
Mary was very proud of all her grandchildren and loved them very much. She was an active participant at the Groton Senior Center in Groton, Connecticut where she always looked forward to playing pinnacle with close friends. She traveled to Greece over 20 times and even brought all of her grandchildren with her to Greece. She traveled back and forth from Connecticut to Florida and recently made Florida her primary place of residence to be closer to her grandchildren. If the family had to decide on her two favorite songs, they would probably be Zorba the Greek and Jamaica Farewell.
