Mary Leslie Wimmer

Leslie will be lovingly remembered by her brother Scott and sister-in-law Glo, of Crested Butte, Colorado, cousins David and Beth Johnston of Vero Beach, Florida; their two children, Lauren and husband Rick Elliott and their daughter Aston of Atlanta, Georgia; Taylor and husband Adam Hubschman and their two daughters Ember and Maren of Arvada, Colorado; cousin Margaret and husband Thomas Ervin and her two children Amanda and James of San Rafael, California; cousins William and Cindy Wimmer of Foley, Alabama; their three children, Micah Wimmer of Cincinnati, Ohio; Luke Wimmer of New York City; and Jordan Wimmer of Houston, Texas; cousin Debbie and Frank Dial and daughter Christi Walker of Huntington, West Virginia; Barb Walker and her two children Nikki Walker and Buddy McGuffin of Huntington, West Virigina;…and numerous friends.

She is pre-deceased by her parents William Karl Wimmer, Mary Margaret Wimmer, her niece Cassi Makani Wimmingham, Aunt Sharron Wimmer, and her cat AJ. We would like to acknowledge her family and many friends who helped and supported her during her difficult time battling pancreatic cancer.

Leslie was born in Frankfurt, Germany during her fathers’ second tour of duty with the US Army. She returned to the US with her parents and then accompanied them to Japan for her fathers’ second tour of duty there. Her father was then stationed at Fort Hood, Texas where he retired and then moved the family to Lighthouse Point, Florida to be closer to her mother’s parents, Charles W. and Emily Daphene Hutchinson. Leslie graduated in June 1972 from Pompano Beach High School; she then attended Florida Atlantic University. After several jobs in the service industry, she started Open Books & Records with her partner Ted Godfried in 1979, in Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale and North Miami. She eventually bought Ted out and was the sole proprietor of the store till she closed the store in 1994 and went to work for Bob Perry of Blue Note Records.

Leslie lived in several different places in South Florida, moving in with her mother in 2008, remaining with her until she passed in 2018. During her time with her mother at Indian River

Colony Club (IRCC), she started “Leslie’s Driving Service” helping members of the community get to doctor appointments, shopping, and the airport. After her mom passed, Leslie lived with friends at IRCC.

Leslie loved horses, cats and music. She was an accomplished violist playing in the high school orchestra. She traveled Europe with the American Youth Symphony and Choir. She also played with the Alhambra Orchestra, a local quartet, and sometimes solo. She enjoyed traveling, attending live music events, and especially spending quality time with family and friends.

Leslie’s celebration of life will be at Colony Hall in IRCC,1936 Freedom Drive, Melbourne, Florida, 32940. A light lunch will be served at noon with the service starting at 1:00 pm. Leslie will be interred in Crested Butte, Colorado with her niece Cassi, her cat AJ and eventually her brother and sister-in-law.
