Maylon W. Barrow age 87 of Melbourne, FL died Wednesday February 19, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Malabar, FL. He was born 1926 in Martinsville, VA to the late Tommy Joe and Ruth Anna Wade Barrow. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, William “Bill”, Joseph “Luray”, and Leon Edsel “Ed” Barrow; and five sisters, Lucy Trehern, Nora Minter, Eunice Wall, Francis Davis, and Lona Wall.
Maylon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Dalton Barrow, two daughters and spouses, Glenna and Edward Magary and Alanna and Roy Dennis; 3 sons and spouses, Samuel and Angie Barrow, Jerry and Nina Barrow, and Alan and Gale Barrow; 3 grandchildren and spouses, Laura and Jason Donath, Stacey and Casey Hill and Melissa and Aaron Allen; 4 grandchildren, Paul Barrow, Jonathan Barrow, Stephen Barrow, and Amanda Barrow; and 5 great-grandchildren, Zachariah Donath, Ashley Donath, Caleb Donath, Carrington Hill, and Adelise Hill.
Maylon was a member and ordained deacon of West Hampton Baptist Church, Hampton, VA, and a member of Parker Baptist Church, Panama City, FL, Huguenot Road Baptist Church, Richmond, VA, and Central Baptist, Melbourne, FL.
Maylon attended Martinsville High School. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corp in 1944, served during World War II as a B-24 Liberator tail gunner and was discharged in 1945 as a US Sergeant, and then later was recalled to serve during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, he worked for the US Department of Defense in Hampton, VA, Panama City, FL, and Richmond, VA for over 40 years.
The funeral (memorial and celebration of life) service will be held Saturday February 22, 2014 at The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial at 11:00 am with Rev. Leroy Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Florida Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside Rites by the Patrick Air Force Base Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the funeral service.
